WATCHING FOR THE BLESSED HOPE — TITUS 2:13
ANSWERS · THE SIGNS

Are We Living in the End Times?

BY THE WATCHMAN · PUBLISHED AUG 12, 2026 · KJV THROUGHOUT
The answer: Biblically, yes, and so was your great-grandmother: Scripture calls the whole church age the last days. The sharper question is whether the birth pains are quickening. The signs Jesus named are running loud in today's news, and we measure them daily. A measure is not a date. No one knows the day.

The Bible's Surprising Answer

Ask "are we in the end times" and most people expect a yes or a no about this decade. The Bible does something stranger. It stamps the phrase "last days" on the whole age between the Lord's first coming and His return:

PassageKJV Text
ACTS 2:16-17“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh.”
HEB. 1:1-2“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.”
1 JOHN 2:18“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”

Peter said the last days had begun at Pentecost. John told his readers, nineteen centuries ago, that it was already the last time. So the honest first answer is yes, and it has been yes since the first century. Every believer who ever lived, lived in the end times. That is not a dodge. It is the Bible's way of saying the next event on God's calendar has been "next" since the apostles, and the church is meant to live watchful in every generation.

But that is not what you meant, is it? You meant: are we near the end of the end. Is it close. And there, Scripture gives us something better than a feeling and less than a date: it gives us signs to watch.

The Signs Jesus Named

His disciples asked Him directly: what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? He did not refuse the question. He answered it with a list, and then He gave the list a name:

PassageKJV Text
MATT. 24:6-8“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars... For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
MATT. 24:11-12“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
MATT. 24:14“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
MATT. 24:37“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
2 TIM. 3:1-2“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.”
2 PET. 3:3-4“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?”

The word behind "sorrows" is birth pains, and it is the most useful picture in the whole discussion. Birth pains do not tell you the hour of delivery. They tell you the direction, and they tell you by getting stronger and closer together. That is exactly the kind of watching Jesus assigned: not calendar-reading, which He forbade, but contraction-timing, which He commanded. Wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes have existed in every century, and honest watchers admit it. The question a watchman asks is never "do these things happen?" It is "how hard, and how close together?"

The Supersign

One sign stands apart, because for eighteen centuries it was missing, and now it is not. Scripture promises, over and over, that Israel would be regathered to her land:

PassageKJV Text
ISA. 66:8“Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once?”
EZEK. 36:24“For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.”
AMOS 9:15“And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God.”

On May 14, 1948, a nation was born in a day, after nearly nineteen hundred years of dispersion. Whatever you make of the timing debates, this is not nothing. Every generation of watchers before 1948 watched without this piece on the board. Ours watches with it, and with Jerusalem back at the center of the world's arguments, which is precisely where the prophets said the last chapter plays out. It is why the Israel lane runs deepest on our wire.

The Honest Ledger

Now the part that keeps this page truthful. Believers before us have looked at their own headlines and concluded the end was upon them: during the Black Death, during the World Wars, in 1844, in 1988, in 2011, in the viral panics of 2025. We keep that record ourselves, because it disciplines us. Some of those watchers watched well and held the line on dates. Some named dates and shipwrecked faith. The lesson is not "stop watching." Jesus commanded watching. The lesson is that intensity alone has fooled sincere people before, which is why intensity must be measured soberly and never converted into a countdown.

That discipline is the entire reason this site is built the way it is built.

THE WATCH TODAY

This page is the doctrine. The front page is the data. Every morning we sweep the world's reporting across fourteen lanes, one for each family of signs Jesus and the prophets named, and publish one number: how loudly the news is running against those signs, scaled so an average 2024 day reads 100. Higher means louder. The number always states the date of the data behind it, and it will never, under any covenant we hold, become a countdown. Signs tell direction, not dates. We time the contractions. God alone calls the delivery.

So: Are We?

Here is our committed, careful answer. Yes, we are in the last days, as every believer since Pentecost has been. And yes, we believe the pains are strong and close together: the supersign is on the board, the gospel reaches nations Paul never heard of, the scoffers scoff on schedule, and the world's arguments keep circling the exact ground the prophets marked. We run this watch because we believe what we see. We report it daily because we believe you should see it too.

And still: no one knows the day or the hour. The generation that saw 1948 has watched a long time now. The Lord's "soon" is not our "soon," and His patience has a stated purpose: He is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). If the door stands open another hundred years, it stands open in mercy. We will still be at the window. That is the job.

One question on this page outranks the headline question, and it is not "how close is the end." It is "if it came today, are you ready?" A watchman who can time every contraction and does not know the Lord has measured his way to nothing. Settle that first. Then come watch with us, with your feet on the ground and your eyes on the sky.

WHAT WE REFUSE TO SAY. We will not tell you when. We publish intensity, never countdown. The number on our front page measures how loudly the news runs against the signs; it does not, and will not ever, estimate a date. Of that day and hour knoweth no man. We watch. We do not predict.
